As a leading provider of services covering automotive glass, home and business glass replacement and electrical and plumbing, we pride ourselves on our commitment to providing first-class service to every one of our customers across Australia.
With more people on the move across the country or battling the damage from the harsh Australian weather, O’Brien® want to ensure we are there and ready to help our customers when they need us.
Fly-in, fly-out Program
Our ‘Fly-in, fly-out’ (FIFO) program enables O’Brien® AutoGlass technicians from across Australia to take on the exciting challenge of travelling to other parts of the country with a high volume of work or give support following severe weather conditions, wherever they may be needed. Being a national network of branches across the county, it’s been recognised that our workforce is willing (and able if they want to participate) to help out on their terms in times of need.
The duration of the program is flexible and ranges from one to three weeks, with travel, accommodation and meals covered. Currently, we have ten technicians taking part, averaging 2.5 weeks away on an ad-hoc basis.
In addition to the FIFO program, participants can join in on other bonus competitions and challenges available, making the most of the financial awards on offer to the O’Brien® AutoGlass workforce.
Develop your skill whilst travelling
The FIFO program provides a tremendous personal and professional development opportunity for our Automotive Technicians. During the program, they can broaden their skill sets and knowledge by working in different environments and learning from team members they wouldn’t usually work with while helping customers.
Allan Pryor, Branch Manager at O’Brien® AutoGlass Rutherford, has recently participated in the FIFO program to support storm affected areas in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales. He has encouraged several of his team to also give it a go. Allan says, “This program is a great networking opportunity to broaden your professional horizons and make some great friends along the way.”
One of Allan’s team, Automotive Technician, Giordan Rufo, has also been part of the FIFO program. “I loved being a FIFO tech. Getting experience in another interstate branch was worthwhile, and I picked up new tips from other experienced staff. It was an amazing personal development opportunity. I got an extra boost in my pay, plus I got to make new friends and had a great time while doing it!”.
Learn from others and make lifelong friends
Allan reflected on his experience, saying, “Getting to work as a FIFO Tech at O’Brien® has been a highlight. I’d recommend it to others and would do it again myself. I’m still in contact with people I worked with while I was working in.”
The FIFO program provides a ‘win-win’ opportunity for our Automotive Technicians wanting to travel and our branches that are looking for help to get our customers back on the road.
Luke Passfield, Leading Hand Technician, also found the FIFO experience fun, “I enjoyed meeting many new faces at O’Brien® and got to enjoy the social side outside of work as well with a few dinners after hours with the local crew”. Luke also felt like the change of scenery at work made for a mini holiday, but with the bonus of being paid.
